Your trek among the stars just got that bit longer in Destiny, or so its developers say. Speaking to GamesRadar, Engineering Lead Luke Timmins says that players needn’t worry about their hard-earned loot in the MMO first-person shooter fading away anytime soon.
“We certainly take it seriously that Destiny is a ten-year thing,” Timmins said. “It’s a long-term thing and with these adventures that we’re adding my contract to you – and any player – is that your Guardian will always be there. We’re going to keep adding new stuff for you to do and I’d hope you’ll look at The Taken King and be like, ‘I’m looking forward to logging on again and hooking friends online’.”
According to the site’s full reports, it looks like your Guardian won’t be resetting their skills or load-outs should you choose not to. However, the game’s regular stream of DLC and online updates will no doubt add a variety of new weaponry and other accoutrements to your class’s specs. As a result, you’ll keep what you’ve earned, but you’ll most certainly miss out on anything new should you take too long of a Destiny sabbatical.
It’s unknown just how the game will presumably balance itself in anticipation of the steady stream of Destiny noobs as veterans climb through the ranks over the next ten years. Perhaps our promised Destiny 2 will answer that.
