The PlayStation 4, nicknamed “Orbis”, will ship before Microsfoft’s next-gen console. Sources say that the design ambitions for the PS4 were set two years ago and that Sony is confident that it will release the console before Microsoft can release their’s.
Release for either machine have not been announced yet but a report puts the PS4 shipping during the holidays in 2013.
The mystery source also states that Sony has informed certain development companies, Ubisoft specifically, about the consoles release and that the companies “are already working on it.” This suggests that certain studios were developing titles for next-gen Sony technology.
And the site VG247 has learned that the PlayStation Vita’s launch hardware had been altered, not surprisingly, so the PS4 and Vita could interact in a similar way to the Wii U and its tablet controller. PS4 games will utilize the Vita’s twin sticks and touch screen.
A Sony executive stated that the company would be the last to announce it’s next gen technology which makes Nintendo, of the major console makers, the only one to have revealed it’s new technology, the Wii U which is scheduled for a holiday release this year.
In the meantime, Sony has confirmed that it will not be bringing the system to this summer’s Electronic Entertainment Expo, which runs June 5-7.
