Amanita Design, the independent developers behind puzzle games like Machinarium and Botanicula, has launched Samorost 3 for PC via Steam, GOG.com and the Humble Store. The game is also available on Mac via the Mac App Store.
The point-and-click adventure game is a loose follow-up to Amanita Design’s original Samorost and Samorost 2, released in 2003 and 2005, respectively. Samorost 3 stars a space gnome who uses the magical powers of a mysterious flute to travel through the cosmos in search of its origins.
The first thing that will catch players eyes is the stylish artwork and the complimentary animation that fills the world of Samorost 3. The style has a great feel of hand drawn mixed with CGI. This is what a game would probably look like if Tim Burton had a hand in the creation.
Screenshots simply do not do the game’s look justice. When in motion, the game’s art takes a new form of life:
If that wasn’t convincing enough, or you want to see more of the game, check out the gameplay trailer below to get a better feel of the game’s creative nature.
Samorost 3 is available on Windows PC and Mac platforms, now in two different editions. The regular edition will cost $19.99 USD and simply contains the game, while the Cosmic Edition will cost $24.99 USD and contains the full game, a 90-minute original soundtrack and a 170-page digital art book featuring design drawings from creator Jakub Dvorský. Amanita Design has also noted that the Cosmic Edition is not available in the Mac App Store.
Samorost 3 is also expected to launch on iOS and Android devices later this year. A price point was not given at the time of announcement.
