Level-5 Inc. and NHN PlayArt have now brought the Yo-Kai Watch series to mobile devices as a free-to-play title with Yo-Kai Watch Wibble Wobble.
Like the 3DS game, you have to fight alongside Jibanyan, Komasan, other creatures to battle and befriend Yo-kai in the world of Springdale. In the press release, Level-5 call Yo-Kai Watch Wibble Wobble, “a skillful blend of puzzle gameplay and RPG mechanics.” It is also inspired by the Disney XD TV series.
The game is now available on both iOS and Android in the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Yo-Kai Watch Wibble Wobble is a matching game like Digimon Heroes or Bejeweled. Players swipe to match one Wib Wob to another, creating a larger version. He or she must tap on the large ones to deal damage to the enemy Yo-kai who are strolling around Springdale. The larger the Wib Wob, the more damage you can inflict. In addition, the more Wib Wob, you connect, the quicker the Fever Gauge will be filled, and when full, it will activate Fever Mode, which makes you invincible for a limited amount of time. There is also a leveling up system with your Wib Wobs that incrases damage and stats.
Like most free-to-play games on mobile, there are daily, normal and event missions that allow you to gain currency. The game’s currency is Y-Money. According to Level-5’s press release, you can “buy items, coins, and even food to treat potential Yo-kai friends.”
The Yo-Kai Watch series is very popular in Japan. The COO of Level-5 Yukari Hayakawa said in the press release, “Just last December in Japan, the 2nd YO-KAI WATCH movie beat Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens at the box office!” Yo-Kai Watch has also gained over 6 million players.
