BioWare has been primarily known for two things in recent years. The one thing is Mass Effect, and the other is Dragon Age. So it may be of interest to fans of the latter that BioWare is working on a brand new Dragon Age title.
BioWare tweeted a behind the scenes video today showcasing the technology they’re using for this upcoming title. As well as discussing the vision they have for it.
Focus On Relationships
The focus seems to be on the relationships you make, as well as the stories of the people around you. Players will take on a bit of a detective role from what they describe.
They also revealed that Solas will have a major role in the upcoming game. So those who play Dragon Age for these kinds of relationships will definitely have something to look forward to.
The video highlights the motion capture technology they use for the game. It’s impressive stuff, able to capture realistic movement pretty flawlessly. While this is nothing new in the industry, it’s nice to see it highlighted.
Concerns About Quality
Though in spite of the good news, we can’t help feel a bit of concern. BioWare’s last couple titles, Mass Effect Andromeda and Anthem, have both been serious disappointments. Both have failed to deliver what we’ve come to expect from BioWare. So there is a lingering worry that this new Dragon Age game will end up the same way.
There is no doubt that the people at BioWare have a lot of passion. Anthem and Andromeda both had cool ideas and the concepts were sound. But the execution was horrible, lacking the kind of polish and quality we expect from them.
This new Dragon Age feels the same way. The concept art is really good, and the ideas they have are great. But time will tell if this will be another case like Mass Effect Andromeda or not. Hopefully, this and Anthem 2.0 will be the stuff that pulls BioWare out of the rut they’ve been in.
