The second of the three announcements Valve is set to make this week has been made, and it may come as no surprise at all that it’s a bit of a hardware announcement.
“Entertainment is not a one-size-fits-all world,” reads the new Steam Machines page. “We want you to be able to choose the hardware that makes sense for you, so we are working with multiple partners to bring a variety of Steam gaming machines to market during 2014, all of them running SteamOS.”
Valve is planning to make 300 of their prototypes and ship them to 300 lucky Steam users to test for themselves. All you have to do to to make yourself eligible is complete the Eligibility Quest on Steam. Steps detailing the Eligibility Quest and answers to any question you may have can be found towards the bottom of the page. Like, when can you buy one of these Steam Machines? 2014.
