Mr. Iwata announced Nintendo will be debuting special figurines at E3 2014 that can be used in a variety of games for both the Wii U and 3DS. Currently this project is being called “Nintendo Figurine Platform” or “NFP” for short.
It is a hope for Nintendo that these in-game playable figures will help expose Nintendo to a wider audience and boost sales. Only a Mario figure has been shown but it can be assumed that there will be a lot more characters available once the first game is for sale in retail stores.
More information about the figures and games will be announced at this year’s E3. Nintendo is hosting a live video presentation from their Treehouse this year in place of an E3 physical presentation. What Nintendo characters do you hope will become playable figurines? Leave a comment below telling us what you expect from Nintendo’s in-game figures.

[…] Nintendo Debuting Skylander-Like Figures at E3 […]
This is brilliant really, exactly the kind of new game they need. I’m hopeful this could result in some sort of shared Nintendo universe on par with Disney Infinity, maybe resurrect all the old Nintendo franchises that’ve been thrown by the wayside combined with the current. StarFox+Earthbound+HarvestMoon+Mario anyone?
I want Link, Zelda, and Samus figures! I hope to see Nintendo really take this idea and make it into a series. Bringing back old franchises in this new figure game would be an awsome way to merge generations of gamers. I can hardly wait for E3!!
