Indie developer inXile Entertainment have announced that they are delaying the launch of their upcoming RPG, Torment: Tides of Numenera. The game was going to come out in the first quarter of 2015 but will now not be released until the fourth quarter of that year. The delay has been attributed to the success of inXile’s other upcoming RPG, Wasteland 2. The popularity of Wasteland 2’s early access means that the game is using more of the developer’s resources, leaving less for Tides of Numenera. However, inXile has promised that the delay will ultimately be beneficial to players as the extra time spent on the game will result in a higher quality product.
Torment: Tides of Numenera is a spiritual successor to the 1999 cult classic, Planescape: Torment. The RPG will be based on the story of Numenera, a table top RPG authored by Dungeons & Dragons veteran Monte Cook. Players take on the role of the Last Castoff and can choose between 3 classes, Glaive, Nano or Jack. This project is only possible thanks to the crowd funding website Kickstarter. The game achieved $1 million of funding faster than any other campaign, doing so in just 7 hours. We’ll bring you an exact release date for Tides of Numenera as soon as it is announced.
