Announced this past weekend in Los Angeles California, the winners of the 87th Academy Awards are in – and the race was between a washed-up superhero and a twelve-year-old boy.
Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel tied for the most golden statuettes last Sunday. Director Alejandro Gonazaléz’s black-comedy, Birdman, took home awards in best picture, director, cinematography, and original screenplay, leaving Budapest Hotel with acclaim for original score, production design, costume design, and best hair and makeup.
Other notable victors of the night included such favorites as actors Eddie Remayne of The Theory of Everything acclaim, Boyhood‘s Patricia Arquette, and Still Alice‘s Julianne Moore.
The show, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother), saw over fifty films receive nominations and a variety of antics from its participants, the least of which was Harris stripping down to his undies in homage to Birdman – sans the winged apparitions.
