NieR: Automata was announced back at E3 2015 at the Square Enix press conference, under the title of NieR New Project. Well, now there’s a name and a gameplay video, showcasing the increased focus on action. Developed by PlatinumGames, the game will be coming exclusively to PlayStation 4.
NieR became a cult hit in 2010 and served as the final game developed by Cavia Inc., who soon dissolved after its release. PlatinumGames have been tapped to bring a more action-oriented approach to the series, which is evident in the gameplay footage. The main character of NieR: Automata is an android named 2B, who serves as part of the resistance against mechanized life-forms that have invaded and overtaken Earth. So expect lots of machines as enemies (hence the name).
Series creator Yoko Taro will be back at the helm with producer Yosuke Saito and composer Keiichi Okabe. Also, a Final Fantasy regular, Akihiko Yoshia, is in charge of character design. There is no release date yet for NieR: Automata.
