During today’s Nintendo Direct Bayonetta, protagonist of the Bayonetta series, was revealed as the final member of the Super Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS roster. In the results from the player fighter ballots earlier this year, Bayonetta ranked number 1 in Europe, in the top 5 in the US, and number 1 worldwide.
A large set of moves was also revealed for Bayonetta. In the direct, Bayonetta was labeled as a combination fighter as all of her moves may be used multiple times within a combo. If the player holds down a button following an attack, Bayonetta will shoot from a variety of her four guns. This attack may be integrated into combos as well. Some other notable moves include the character’s smash attack, Wicked Weaves, which allows Bayonetta to use her hair to summon a large limb from the Infernal Demon Madama Butterfly and her signature move, Witch Time, to slow down time around the opposing character. Bayonetta can even use a final smash called Infernal Climax, which allows Bayonetta to summon the Infernal Demon Gamorrah, who causes damage to all opponents and immediately KO’s any opponent with a damage amount over 100%.
Bayonetta will launch with 2 costumes: A blue costume from Bayonetta 2 and a red one entitled “A Witch with No Memories” from the original game.
A new Bayonetta inspired stage entitled “Umbra Clock Tower” was also announced based on the falling clock tower from the opening scene of the original Bayonetta game; It is a flat platform with moving floating platforms surrounding it. In the middle of a match, you will see an army of angels when you enter Purgatorio. Songs for the Wii U game feature music from the two Bayonetta games and new compositions exclusive to Super Smash Bros.
Bayonetta and the Umbra Clock Tower do not yet have a release date, but will be available for $5.99 on Wii U and 3DS, and $6.99 for both.
