It seems that many television networks and video providers want to cash in on the Game of Thrones market. According to Deadline and The Washington Post, Amazon wants to capture the GoT audience by adapting the precious work of J.R.R. Tolkien and transforming The Lord of the Rings trilogy into a television show. Amazon Studios will be working alongside the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins, and New Line Cinema. Amazon has allegedly paid out nearly $250 million to obtain the rights for The Lord of the Rings TV show.
This show has the potential to be the greatest current fantasy television series if written and produced correctly. There is a large chance the producers are only concerned with the monetary revenue and not very conscious of the integrity of the literary masterpieces. Still, after several films, video game and radio adaptions it is hard to imagine the Amazon production will be any more delicate while creating yet again another production. Perhaps this time, a few of the stories hiding in the shadows of the glorious plots will be brought to light.
