We’re all at least a little familiar with the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise. Set in the near future and, depending on the game, a certain era in the past, our lead character goes into the mind of one of his ancestors and becomes that person. That person always just happened to be an assassin. With mixed results, these games could be entertaining and challenging, or just plain boring and tiresome.
Either way, Michael Fassbender turned out to be a fan of the franchise and signed on to star and co-produce the adaptation. Fassbender stars as new characters, Callum Lynch and Aguilar de Nehra, a prisoner who escapes execution with the help of Abstergo Industries, and the assassin he turns into. Through the Animus, a device that helps Lynch dive into his ancestor’s mind, he is able to unlock the secrets of the Templar, an organization attempting to destroy the assassins, and the corporation that helped him.
Featuring the horribly misused Kanye West track, “I Am a God,” this trailer is impressive, but nearly ruined by the song. Almost all of the cinematography here is gorgeous and with acting help from Marion Cotillard, Ariane Labed, Michael K. Williams, Jeremy Irons, and Brendan Gleeson, I’m sure the talent will keep us at ease before we get too nervous. Directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth, Snowtown), Assassin’s Creed is set to be released for December 21st 2016.

The trailer captures the essence of the AC series but the song sadly ruins the mood.
