A few months ago, Gearbox talked about bringing microtransactions into Battleborn and as of June 16 it has through an update for the game. The premium currency is called Platinum.
As of right now, Platinum can buy you skins and taunts for the game. However, Gearbox is thinking about further down the line using the currency to let gamers purchase bank spaces, loadouts, boosting XP and credit in ways that “do not affect actual game play”.
This is apparently to keep the game from becoming pay-to-win as many games have become with microtransactions. However you will have to to purchase the currency as ‘Platinum Packs’.
Here’s the exchange rate:
- $1.99 for 230 Platinum
- $4.99 for 700 Platinum
- $9.99 for 1625 Platinum
- $19.99 for 3500 Platinum
- $49.99 for 9300 Platinum
Taunts will be a whole 230 Platinum while a new skin will be 430. So of course most times you will probably have just a little left over. That’s how they get you.
Gearbox included a message at the end of the update that is something you shouldn’t overlook:
“And remember: as we’ve said all along, we’re stuffing Battleborn with lots of free content across the board – five new, free heroes, competitive multiplayer maps, modes, and updates. Keep an eye out over the next several months as we have lots more content coming down the pipeline for those who own Battleborn.”
