BPM: Bullets Per Minute is an upcoming rhythm FPS from developer Awe Interactive. It’s arguably the first FPS that combines rhythm gameplay with FPS mechanics. Described as a “rock opera FPS roguelike with relentless rhythm”, BPM: Bullets Per Minute got a fair amount of attention back in April when the first trailer for the game was released. And now the game is finally coming to PC on September 15th this year.
The game features gameplay similar to typical dungeon-based shooters. But everything takes place in a world where every action is pulled off to the beat of its rocking soundtrack. The soundtrack takes inspiration from the likes of Wagner, Muse, and Audioslave. And every bar of the music is tied to the in-game action. The structure of the audio is the one thing pulling everything together cohesively.
Oldschool Influences
BPM: Bullets Per Minute obviously takes its share of influence from oldschool shooters. It seems to have a very strong arcade quality to the gameplay. Something that was far more common in retro FPS’s.
“There’s no doubt we were inspired by the retro shooters from when we were growing up when putting BPM: Bullets Per Minute together, but we think the game’s unashamed slave-to-the-rhythm ethic gives it a fresh feel and an added edge. It’s that sweet spot between giving gamers a taste of the supreme shooters they loved when they were young, but also offering them something that genuinely pushes the boundaries of the genres the game straddles. – David Jones, Awe Interactive founder
As the mighty Valkyrie, your task is to clear out the bosses to the beat of the music, and looking awesome doing so. Standing in your way are randomly generated dungeons, filled to the brim with monsters. Seven bosses in total await your destruction. On your way, you will collect weapons, items, and abilities that ensure each and every playthrough will be unique.
