In the ever-growing list of canceled events due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic, QuakeCon 2020 is the latest convention that has been canceled this year. The news was delivered via the official Twitter account, with the organizers detailing both an explanation and apology about the cancellation. QuakeCon was going to take place in August in Texas but has been delayed with no confirmation if it will take place this year or next
They have mentioned however, that they hope to come up with other ways to celebrate in August, most likely due to it being the 25th anniversary of the event, which logically thinking would be some kind of online event. We’re not sure exactly what that could be yet, a tournament possibly, but we’re sure Bethesda and id Software can come up with something to keep the fans pleased.
This event joins so many others in being cancelled including E3, EGX Rezzed, Insomnia 66, South by Southwest (SXSW), RTX and more. Although you may be upset or even angry over these closures/delays, remember that the virus is a very serious epidemic and should be taken seriously, and we advise if you aren’t aware to read up on it and make sure you are following the correct advice. Stay home if you can, wash your hands, and stay safe.
