Yesterday, Cygames suddenly announced (translation) that they were banning all streaming of their games on popular Japanese streaming service Mildom. For the uninitiated, Mildom is a popular streaming platform in Japan, akin to Twitch in the United States. Streaming in Japan is a tight business, as Mildom has multiple other streaming platforms to compete with.
Cygames’ announcement came late last night, as they revealed information regarding the sudden decision. Cygames specified that there are unnamed issues with content posted on the platform. The videos in question violate the Terms of Use and Distributor Agreement. To make matters worse, these videos are without a formal license for the titles they offer.
Cygames Bans Streaming in Mildom
As a result, the company has banned all streaming of its products on Mildom. One such casualty of this ban is the recently-released Granblue Fantasy Versus. This hurts streaming the game, especially since it released yesterday on Steam as well. However, Granblue Fantasy Versus is not the only game that’s affected.
Other games affected by the sudden ban are:
- Granblue Fantasy
- Shadowverse
- Dragalia Lost
- Rage of Bahamut
- Princess Connect! Re:Dive.
Viewers and streamers who watch these games on Mildom will have to look elsewhere to watch streams of their favorite games, such as OPENREC.
This type of action hurts streamers trying to promote Granblue through Mildom previously, like GO1 (pronounced Go-ichi). GO1 is a popular tournament player for games such as Dragon Ball FighterZ. Promoting Granblue through his stream is now no longer possible thanks to the ban on streaming.
