After six years in the pipeline, The Last Guardian has finally been given a launch window, Sony has revealed at its 2015 E3 conference this evening.
After Sony’s Mark Cerny was reportedly attached to the project just last week, Team ICO’s surrealist platformer has been slated for sometime in 2016. Viewers were treated to a 5-10 minute preview of the game live onstage and introduced personally by Sony of America President Shawn Layden.
The Last Guardian chronicles the adventures of a young boy and his pet griffin as they wander through mysterious temple ruins in the wistful spirit of the title that made the studio famous: Ico.
The game’s been infamously delayed repeatedly throughout both this and the last generation of consoles when it was unveiled back at E3 2009. When – and perhaps not if – The Last Guardian releases, it’ll only be on Playstation 4.
