Those looking for a quaint, story-based adventure in the vein of Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture might have something to look forward to with Pixel Night’s Empathy. The game’s debut trailer has just been released and has a lot of mystery to it, as well as a lot of voice-over.
Running on Unreal Engine 4, Empathy has been kicking around in the public since 2012. However, this is the first official trailer for the game besides some test footage and alpha gameplay. Empathy takes place from multiple first-person perspectives, each with the purpose of unraveling what exactly ignited a silent apocalypse on the strange world. As the name suggests, players will be placed in other character’s memories and have to piece together things from there.
Engagement with the world and manipulating it seems to be the focus of the game. This manipulation will come in the form of interacting with the emotions and memories floating in the air, as well as completing puzzles in the environment. There are definitely vibes of Bioshock in this trailer, especially with Atlas seeming to be a large component in the world of Empathy.
This is the first title from Swedish-based developer, Pixel Night, who recently had Iceberg Interactive pick up their title for publishing on PC. The Steam release for Empathy is set to happen in September 2016.
