With both Miitomo and Super Mario Run already released in some capacity (the Android version of Super Mario Run will launch in March), and Pokemon Go still going strong, Nintendo is gearing up to take one of their other beloved properties to mobile devices. Fire Emblem Heroes will bring the popular franchise to Android devices on February 2nd, with an iOS version launching later. The game will be a free download. The title was announced during their Nintendo Direct today which was focused exclusively on the future of the Fire Emblem franchise.
Fire Emblem Heroes will contain an original story in a brand new campaign that will have players summoning famous characters from throughout the Fire Emblem franchise. The characters will come from games such as Fire Emblem Awakening, Fire Emblem Fates and Fire Emblem: The Binding Blade. The gameplay will be similar to the previous games in the series, with combat taking place on an 8×6 grid to fit the size of phone screens. Additional heroes can be summoned and heroes can be upgraded as players progress through the game.
In addition to a story mode, there will be a Training Tower which will offer the ability to play different battle scenarios over and over for rewards and experience. The enemies and layout of the maps will change each time the mode is played. Arena Duels will let players fight against others online and Hero Battles will be limited time battle scenarios that players can attempt.
Because this is a free game it should come as no surprise that there are optional in-app purchases. There will also be free updates that will add new content to the game, including new characters. Fans who want to register early for the game can do so now through the Google Play store. This will notify players when the game is available to be downloaded.
