Ghostrunner was released last year, in what we called the cyberpunk year. Selling around 600,000 units, the game has been a big success for developer One More Level, who is already at work developing the sequel. Ghostrunner 2 is now in development for PC, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series consoles, and will be published by 505 Games who purchased the IP.
The original was a collaboration between One More Level and Slipgate Ironworks and was produced by 3D Realms. 3D Realms of course has a number of classic titles under their belt, including the well-received Ion Fury, a spiritual successor to Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior. Though it seems neither Slipgate nor 3D Realms are involved with the sequel.
Ghostrunner became infamous for its challenging difficulty. Though its mastery through repetition gameplay has proven highly addictive for those who have gotten into it. In many ways it has become the Dark Souls of cyberpunk.
Lots Of Potential
“We are particularly excited about the future release of Ghostrunner 2. Together with One More Level, we have created a thrilling and engaging video game. This new collaboration deepens 505 Games presence within the Polish videogame market, a reality now among the firsts in Europe for the development of video games, new projects and talents. We will continue to pay close attention to the Polish market to constantly improve and expand our product portfolio with video games capable of satisfying the tastes of the entire gaming community.”
