You might recall we talked about Gray Zone in January. This narrative-driven tactical RTS from Slovakian developer EastWorks studio has already gotten some attention. And it seems the studio is keen on keeping that interest going with the new story trailer for the game.
Gray Zone follows a slave who has turned on his masters, who has to find help from the local population in reuniting his people. And judging by the story trailer that we can expect a fair deal of personal investment as well.
Gray Zone: A Tactical Story-Driven RTS
Gray Zone is shaping up to become somewhat of an interesting mix of genres. Described by its developer as a “tactical story-driven RTS shoot’em up with RPG elements”, it seems we can expect a lot of different gameplay from the game.
Gray Zone will leave a lot up to the player and how they choose to resolve situations. For instance, you can choose to either go in guns blazing, or use stealth. Or whatever mix of those you feel like.
And given the game is very tactical in nature, you also need to focus on building your fireteam. Working with locals you find seems to be the way to accomplish this. So we’re curious how deep your relationships with other characters can go.
Heading To Steam Soon
So far Gray Zone sounds like Mass Effect, but built more as a classic strategy game. Screenshots of the game brings to mind other tactical RPG’s such as Wasteland, classic Fallout and Halo Wars. And given this kind of genre has seen a bit of a resurgence recently, it’s nice to see a more story-driven approach to it.
Gray Zone is heading into Early Access on Steam on April 30th. You can already wishlist the game on Steam, so if you are interested, make sure you do so to get notified when it releases.
