Luncarch Studios card game/RTS hybrid Prismata launches on Steam Early Access on March 8th. Prismata, which was backed on Kickstarter in 2014 for $140,000, has been in development for the past eight years by a team featuring former MIT mathematics researchers.
In this sci-fi inspired game, players build decks of cards and enter onto a tabletop battlefield, where they then build up an army, maintain an economy, and attempt to create an unstoppable army in order to defeat opposing armies. The game features four game modes, online multiplayer, puzzle challenges, custom matches, and a single player campaign.
Primata takes place in the far future on the distant planet Beacon, where humans, who live take control of robot armies in order to defeat opposing armies made up entirely of intelligent machines. However, trouble arises one day when the humans’ robotic troops begin to malfunction.
Five additional story chapters will be released for Prismata during the Early Access period on a monthly basis. The developers have promised that the game will feature zero pay-to-win aspects and that despite the card-game aspects, randomness will not play a role in the game’s mechanics.
