Netflix is on, just about, every modern day device known to man; save for the microwave, house phone and cars (for now). Surprisingly, despite all of the devices the service is on, the PlayStation 3 appears to be the #1 thing people use Netflix on (I’m one of them!). Imagine that.
This news comes from the PlayStation Blog, who reached out to Netflix’s CEO Reed Hastings, who was nice enough to shed a little more light on the situation:
“PS3 is our largest TV-connected platform in terms of Netflix viewing, and this year, at times, even surpassed the PC in hours of Netflix enjoyment to become our number one platform overall. PS3 is a natural fit for Netflix in terms of developing and first deploying our most advanced features. We can transparently update our application with new features on a daily basis, and through the free PlayStation Network, people around the world can sign up for Netflix directly from their PS3.”
The last point he made is the primary reason for why I, personally, use Netflix on the PS3, as opposed to the Xbox 360; I don’t need an Xbox Live Gold account to access it. Still, taking the Xbox 360 out of the running, who would’ve thought that the PS3 would overtake the PC and some of the other devices that also have Netflix? The PS3 is more popular than I thought.
