A new side-scrolling Pikmin game is coming to the Nintendo 3DS in 2017. The announcement comes from today’s Nintendo Direct, where a bevy of 3DS-related announcements were made. An official title was not given to the game, nor an exact release date.
The new Pikmin title looks to be very puzzle-oriented, with different colour Pikmin being used to solve specific puzzles Captain Olimar runs into along the way. Red Pikmin will help get players across fiery areas, while Blue Pikmin will help traverse underwater levels. Then there are the Yellow Pikmin, which will help get to higher elevations for those hard-to-reach places.
Pikmin will not only help you through areas but will also be able to be used to take out enemies and carry treasures. They can be controlled as easily as just tapping the touchscreen while moving through the stages. It seems very simple, but I’m sure it will get very complicated as you maneuever through more puzzling situations. This is also a change of pace for the series, which has never had a handheld-exclusive title, nor a side-scrolling adventure.
I’m looking forward to seeing how the game turns out, but knowing Nintendo’s track record with puzzle games, it will likely be a pretty fun title. We’ll see when it’s released in 2017 and gets an official title.
