The sixteenth Pokémon movie, officially titled Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened saw its first English Trailer release today. Personally I would have kept “Mewtwo” in the title like the Japanese version, which translates as ExtremeSpeed Genesect: Mewtwo Awakens, but hey, I’m a writer, not a marketing guy.
The movie features the ancient Pokémon Genesect, revived by Team Plasma no doubt for nefarious purposes, as well as the aforementioned Mewtwo. However, this Mewtwo is not the same one many of us are familiar with. Hideki Sonoda, the screenwriter, confirmed on Twitter that this Mewtwo is not the same character from the first Pokémon film, but a different individual with a more feminine voice and the ability to transform into “Awakened Mewtwo” – a form that plays into the new “Mega Evolution” mechanic seen in the Pokémon X and Y games.
Pokémon the Movie: Genesect and the Legend Awakened airs on Cartoon Network on October 19.
