It seems with each passing year, video games are striving for realism. Incorporating real-world problems, making political statements, and social commentary. Recently, a new Call of Duty game was announced and its announcement trailer has quite stirred up a storm. Matter in fact, if you go to any youtube channel displaying the trailer; you will find loads of comments talking about the political message it’s making. As well as people pointing out the irony that Activision boasts: “Know your history”, but then, removes a historical scene to appease China.
So, this got us thinking: Should video games strive realism? Striving to make players think and feel, instead of, being mindless fun that will kill 8 hours of the day. However, not everyone is down for that. Many gamers believe video games should just focus on being fun de-stressers. In this video, we will be debating/discussing if video games should incorporate more realism or remain to its original core.
