If you really enjoyed Stranger Things season 1 and can’t wait to get back to the Upside Down with Eleven and the gang, Netflix has just the thing for you. Re-enter the world of Stranger Things with…it’s very own Atari-style game! Yay!
“Hack Day is a way for our product development team to take a break from everyday work, have fun, experiment with new technologies, and collaborate with new people.” – Netflix Tech Blog
The streaming giant hosted another hack day, producing all kinds of cool new projects from the team. One of those projects is Stranger Games, a title that feels right out of 1983, blocks and all. At first glance, it reminded me a bit of the game Frogger, as a millennial I really missed the whole Atari stage, and began my gaming life on NES, SNES and SEGA GENESIS.
If the game had graced store shelves in 1983, I would have been more than happy to shove it into the nearest Atari 7800.
Netflix engineer Joey Cato is credited with hacking together this simple game. It has a few sub-games that resemble the aforementioned Frogger and Pac-Man. If you’ve played either you’ll be more than comfortable “hopping” into the game. You can choose to play as Eleven, bypassing passing vans, or enter the upside-down to rescue children while trying to avoid the Demogorgon.
The game is free and oddly enough browser-based. You can play the game yourself by visiting this link here. Let your inner cabbage patch kid take over, rock out to Michael Jackson, or just grab a cold Mountain Dew, because it’s gonna be a long night of nostalgia (assuming you were born in the 80’s).
If you like out-running Demogorgons Atari-style you may also be interested in a free mobile casino bonus. If that’s not your thing, we know a land fill out west that can get you a pretty darn good deal on a brand new E.T. game. We hear it was a big hit back in the 80’s.
