If it wasn’t obvious from the first guide, the LUFENIA Era hit Dissidia Opera Omnia. The era brought a new Orb mechanic that can take out your entire party if you don’t act upon its mechanics. Due to the diverse orb mechanics we described, it is advised for every player to have at least a handful of units suiting every niche.
Of course, it’s also important to have a few more flexible characters who can be used in a lot of stages. Because of this, we will only focus on the units you may want to consider pulling for/maxing out in Early and Mid-LUFENIA. Additionally, we’ll cover some later stages which become way too tough to beat without a fully-fleshed-out team. However, do remember that the meta of the game is bound to shift. Finally, note that if a unit is not mentioned here, it does not mean it is bad by any means.
Every unit introduced during the LUFENIA era is going to be viable to use for those stages. In fact, the majority of stages are built around them and their gimmicks in mind. There never is a truly bad unit in Dissidia Opera Omnia. Everything changes according to the way the game changes and gives life to old characters while introducing new ones. Be forewarned that we will also talk about a few characters that have already been revealed in the JP version of the game. As such, we will ask you to mind this Spoiler Warning.
DPT (Damage Per Turn)
Cloud: His fairly standard, yet complex kit allows him to be used in an incredible amount of stages. Funnily enough, while he is not the overall best character, he can be used to counteract a ton of LUFENIA orbs, making his eligibility quite high. His kit includes delays, launches, paralysis, and dispel… all of which have appeared at least once as part of some boss’s LUFENIA orb condition. Thanks to his future rework, he will gain the ability to perform highly damaging moves. Not only that, but his LD will allow him to extend his longevity thanks to free ability usage.
Lightning: She strikes hard… very hard! Her auras are very potent, she is fast and has access to free turns. This is made even clearer thanks to her crazy effects from her BT attack. Not only do her auras help the party as a whole, but she also deals high Single Target damage. If you ask any player who has been following JP or has played it during early LUFENIA, they will most likely recommend you to save resources for her. She stayed at the top of the meta for at least 4 months.
Tanking
The Tank spot is occupied by two robust and incredible units that fill their own niches. If you want to build a competent team, you have to consider ways to mitigate damage. As such, here are our picks for the tank spot.
Warrior of Light: Also known as Captain America, WoL dropped recently as the first LUFENIA character. As such, he brings a very incredible LD which lets him shield his team from HP Damage. Unfortunately, his BT is quite mediocre despite its amazing effect of BRV Regeneration (depending on Shield number). However, he will be susceptible to bosses that dispel buffs or deal heavy damage to his shields of light. WoL will make your party safe while they deal the big damage numbers.
Gladiolus: The Cup Noodles man himself. Gladio is one of the most useful DPT/Tank hybrids. However, he requires some work to play as he requires a few turns to build his stacks up at the start of the fight to end up not only hit hard but also provide solid auras to the party. Also, he’ll also provide some solid battery for all of your units and offer an unrivaled cover mechanic that will hurt multiple targets en masse. Both of these tanks will be able to heal your party.
Healer/Utility
Paladin Cecil: He will keep your units healed while also providing high damage alongside a powerful BT effect. While he is technically part of the Mid LUFENIA era, he remains even to this day, one of the better powerhouses of the game. Unfortunately, he will be locked out of fights that have Holy Resistance/Absorption, keep this in mind before pulling for his LD and BT. Otherwise, you’ll be stuck without a healer and that’s going to be bad news for fights featuring HP Attack spammers.
Rude: Used frequently in conjunction with Lightning, good ol’ Mr. Clean will help your team with an incredibly high Healing potency. Also, excess healing is converted into a BRV battery for the whole team! His damage might be average but who cares about dishing out big numbers when your entire team will always be dealing huge HP Damage? Exactly! Don’t hesitate to get him if you want a huge BRV dispenser.
LUFENIA Picks and You
The LUFENIA era of Dissidia Opera Omnia is evolving steadily fast. Of course, there’s still some more advice we can give you on how to handle the newly released difficulty. It is important to say that if you don’t like any of these characters and prefer to wait for your favorites, there’s nothing wrong with adapting to your preferences. At the end of the day, these are just suggestions that will fall and rise as the game evolves.
As said before, no character in Dissidia Opera Omnia is truly “Bad”. Now, before we wrap up, The Convergence wants to talk about a certain odd case:
The Odd Case of Vivi
Everyone knows that Vivi recently was dropped as a GL Version exclusive character. His LD enables him to do damage over each turn he takes at the cost of the party’s HP. The community at large has been quite split in regards to whether or not Vivi would be a good character to use during LUFENIA. The conclusion The Convergence has reached is the following:
Vivi unexpectedly got his LD weapon in the global version two weeks ago and a lot of players are debating about his longevity in LUFENIA. Whilst he is undoubtedly a very strong damage dealer at the transition between the two eras, his issues are already showing up: He will not deal with LUFENIA orbs very well nor will his damage be remarkably high.
His low hit count on skills is still an issue and the necessity to build a team around him drags him down. However, his follow-up attack has shown itself to be very impactful. Unfortunately, the BRV damage reduction will eventually make it into a party killing machine with barely any upside. He will be a great addition to anyone’s cast during the very early stages of LUFENIA but will get crippled when stages start introducing BRV damage reduction. at around Lightning’s BT release.
With all of that out of the way, what do you think about the Character Picks guide? Are you going to take any of the characters we suggested in your party?
