Although Android players took the brunt of Fortnite‘s success on IOS, it seems like the smash hit will finally make its way on the platform. Epic Games announced this on their website through a blog post:
Fortnite is coming to Android! We are targeting this summer for the release. We know many of you are excited for this release, and we promise that when we have more information to share, you’ll hear it from us first.
Bluehole Games had an advantage over Epic Games by releasing battle royale competitor PUBG on both platforms in a finished state. Unfortunately, Epic Games might overtake Bluehole in the mobile gaming landscape when Fortnite finally appears on the Play Store.
Please keep in mind that this announcement does not definitively seal the release date. Epic Games are eyeing a Summer release but does not outwardly confirm an exact date. Nevertheless, the demand for the game will probably allow for an early Summer release.
A possibility is that the ‘Save the world’ mode is not available upon release. Instead, the game will be in beta mode alike the IOS version. If the IOS version leaves beta mode it can be assured that Android will follow close suit.
Fortnite dominated the App Store charts in over 40 countries after its debut on IOS devices. It currently grosses around $1 million in microtransactions on IOS daily. These figures will surely repeat when it is available on the Play Store.
This release will add another platform to Fortnite‘s expansive Cross-Play selection. Ps4, Xbox One, Mac, PC, IOS and (eventually) Android are all able to play against/with each other. According to industry rumors, Fortnite will also come to the Nintendo Switch. If this happens, most of the eighth generation can gather and play the same game. That will settle some differences.
