It was inevitable, but Bandai Namco has announced that Dark Souls will be remastered for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The popular FromSoftware game is arguably the most popular of their Souls titles and will be releasing on May 25th, 2018. Dark Souls Remastered will feature updated graphics. Above is a quick trailer to remind you of the epic music and aesthetic of the games.
Most notably about this announcement is that it will be coming to the Switch, which marks the first time the series has been on a Nintendo platform. When playing the game on the Nintendo Switch in TV mode, expect it to run at 30FPS with 1080p resolution. Those with a PS4 Pro, Xbox One X, and PC can expect enhancements that allow the game to run at an upscaled 4K resolution and 60FPS.
There doesn’t seem to be any other changes to the game, but there will obviously be online connectivity brought back (a staple of the franchise), meaning newcomers to the franchise will still have the full experience available to them. I’ll be curious how it feels on the Nintendo Switch with the Joy-Cons, but other than that this seems like a fairly standard, expected announcement.
Let us know in the comments below whether you’ll be returning to Lordran or venturing into the world of Dark Souls for the first time.
