THQ may be no more, but the Darksiders series will live on this winter bigger and better than ever. Nordic Games, which purchased the rights to the action-role-playing franchise as well as over reported 150 titles of THQ’s almost two years ago, has announced that Darksiders II will be getting a current-gen makeover this holiday season to PS4 and Xbox One.
Dubbed Darksiders II: The Deathinitive Edition, the new game’s being led by David Adams, founder and president Gunfire Games – a studio comprised of most of the folks from original developer Vigil Games. This remastered version will reportedly boast 1080p graphics, revamped character models, and redesigned lighting. The team also says it’ll attempt to solve balancing issues regarding the AI as well as redistribution of the game’s loot system.
“We had to go through and relight the whole game with more dynamic shadows and higher resolution textures,” he said in an interview with Polygon. “Pretty much everything in the game had higher resolution assets already available.”
We thought Darksiders II was a big improvement over the first game as “a top shelf gaming experience in every way” when it launched back in 2012 and easily a Game of the Year contender. The game originally released for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and later for Wii U with five hours of additional gameplay.
Adams went on to suggest that once completed, the Deathinitive edition may pave the way for a port of the original Darksiders to current-gen consoles in a similar fashion as well as for a possible Darksiders III at some point.
In the meantime, we don’t know how much Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will be, but we do know it’ll have a wealth of the game’s original DLC including the following:
• Maker Armor Set
• The Abyssal Forge
• The Demon Lord Belial
• Death Rides
• Angel of Death
• Deadly Despair
• Shadow of Death
• Mortis Pack
• Rusanov’s Axe
• Van Der Schmash Hammer
• Fletcher’s Crow Hammer
• Mace Maximus
• Argul’s Tomb.
