Since the release of Alan Wake last year many gamers have been left wondering whether series creator Remedy Entertainment would release DLC content or even a sequel. Alan Wake was released amidst massive anticipation and received mostly positive reviews. So a sequel would not be a bad idea for any studio looking to build a franchise.
According to a report from Eurogamer, Remedy Entertainment has confirmed that a team of developers have been working on a sequel of sorts since at least April of this year. But in an odd twist the so called sequel is not a sequel at all, nor is it a DLC pack for the first game.
“Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake instalment will not be Alan Wake 2. And neither will it be DLC,” said Oskari Hakkinen, Head of Remedy Entertainment’s Franchise development.
This of course leaves a lot of us wondering what it is exactly. Hakkinen went on to say, “It’s something that’ll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this installment will also give an opportunity for players who aren’t familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board.”
It appears they want to appeal to a new audience with this game while still not alienating the original fan base. The game won’t necessarily be Alan Wake 2, we will refer to it as such, but it will most likely be it’s own game with a similar or completely different story arc. What we do know is that Remedy Entertainment was not planning on commenting on Alan Wake 2 until later this year and they only responded to Eurogamer’s request for an interview after an artist who allegedly worked on elements of the new game posted details of his work on his LinkedIn profile.
Hakkinen was hesitant to go into any further details but said that “Fall 2011 is probably a good guess” for when to expect it’s release. In whatever form it ends up. A sequel, a DLC, a non-sequel DLC, we look forward to more details on Alan Wake 2 as they are revealed.

Anythings possible. They may opt to do a full retail version with a new story arc. Same thing Epic Games is planning to do with Gears of War.

Ironically "Evan Almighty" did much better than "Bruce Almighty". Go figure.
