Othercide is a dark gothic tactical RPG that launched on Steam, PS4, and Xbox One on July 28. The game focuses on spectacle, with nightmarish creatures and an army at your command. It also has a dynamic timeline system, which allows endless combat possibilities.
The narrative is described as deep and complex, with a setting that pits you as the last hope to save humanity. In a nightmare world, the Daughters are the last remnants of great warriors. They are the last hope against Suffering and death. The Suffering are dread creatures pulled from the worst of Humanity’s crimes against itself.
An Interesting Title For TRPG Fans
Those into games like X-Com are definitely going to have to keep an eye out for this title. If you haven’t already played it on PC or consoles, then the Switch version might be worth picking up. It’s been getting rave reviews from the press, with a solid list of 9/10 scores from most outlets.
Its unique visual style is also something to behold and something that will aid in transitioning to a handheld console like the Switch. The console isn’t known for its power, so having a distinct visual style will help that. With controls that are fairly intuitive, it’s a no-brainer for the system.
Forward Thinking Combat
Combat is described as an intricate dance of spectacular actions and counters. Planning ahead will be greatly rewarded, allowing you to set up chain attacks to outsmart the enemy.
The bosses are also quite epic and will require using every skill available to you. These are the sources of Suffering, made from the crimes that humanity has committed against itself.
The Switch version comes with Dream mode, an easier option for new players. It also comes with the Aura system, which is a new spatial mechanic. Both of these will no doubt be added to the other versions of the game as well, though it’s nice the Switch version has them out of the box.
With its deep and complex narrative, excellent unique visuals, and intricate combat, Othercide is a must-have for tactical RPG fans. You can already grab it on Steam for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The Switch version is coming September 10. There is no word on a physical release yet, so a digital release is most likely going to be the only option so far.
