Destiny‘s most asked for feature is finally coming, and a week ahead of the launch of the next expansion. Private matches are something that Destiny players have been requesting for quite some time, and Bungie decided to gift them to the community a bit earlier than expected. It had been announced that private matches would be coming to Destiny with the latest expansion, Rise of Iron, but most thought they would have to wait for the September 20th release of the expansion. However, during a MLG stream today at 10 AM PST, Bungie plans to announce that private matches are now live for Destiny players. This is known through an Activision press release that may have been mistakenly sent a day early. It should be noted of course that the private matches are for current-gen systems only. Sorry about that, Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 players.
Private matches will be available for all current-gen Destiny players. However, to access the new maps from Rise of Iron, all players that are to enter a match must own Rise of Iron. Additionally, the expansion must be owned for all players to be able to participate in the new game mode “Supremacy”. The new mode is similar to Kill Confirmed in Call of Duty, where teams face off against each other, and when a player dies, they leave behind a crest on the ground. The engram needs to be picked up to get two points for the team; one for the person who got the kill and one for the person that picks up the crest. However, if another player picks up the crest then no points are given for the kill. The mode seems a bit more methodical than say Mayhem has been, but it should be a welcome addition.
In total there will be over a dozen different modes that you can play, from Skirmish to Mayhem Rumble, and on 30 maps (total amount dependant on if you are on PS4 and have console exclusive maps). You can set the time limit or score for matches, the time of day, and even if you want light level advantages enabled or not. There are also some rewards that are gained from playing private matches, such as 30 crucible rep from each game, and rare items can drop as rewards. However, no legendary items or exotics can drop, and 3 of Coins can not be activated to give you a chance at an exotic. You can work on daily crucible bounties and gunsmith bounties in private matches, and you can even work on your grimoire score. You can not do weekly bounties through private matches, or work on quests or record books, but all in all the rewards are pretty decent for getting together to play some games with friends.
Private matches are something that many Destiny players have wanted for quite some time, so the time is almost here to really unleash with your fellow players. Will you stick to playing classic Skirmish, or decide to set up some one on one, fusion rifles only matches? Sound off in the comments below!
