The recently released Shovel Knight amiibo can be scanned onto your Wii U or 3DS from inside the box. This is especially helpful for those looking to collect the highly sought after toys without removing them from their packaging.
Nintendo amiibo are prevented from scanning while in the box, due to a small metallic strip inserted on the underside of the box. Unlike previous amiibo, the Shovel Knight amiibo is manufactured by Just Toys International instead of Nintendo itself. This will likely come as a welcome change for collectors or people just looking to maintain the condition of their amiibo.
The Shovel Knight amiibo launched on January 8th. As the first amiibo released from a third-party developer and game, it will be interesting to see if amiibo from other franchises are in the works, and if they too allow for scanning from within the packaging. Unfortunately, the manufacturer of the upcoming Mega Man amiibo is Nintendo, so fans of the series likely won’t be able to scan the amiibo from inside the box.
