Clearly the guy whose only task at Steam is to add new releases is as excited for The Witcher 3 as I am, because this morning the game was listed as a new release on steam. Unfortunately, upon clicking on the game in steam, it only brings you to a dead end.
It appears this mishap may have to do with CD Projekt RED having also just released an expansion pass for The Witcher 3, which would include “two epic adventures”, Hearts of Stone, and Blood & Wine. Here’s what the developer has to say about the DLC in the description:
“Hearts of Stone will take Geralt on an all-new 10-hour adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.
Blood and Wine, a 20-hour tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.
The upcoming expansions will offer gamers new content, gear and foes, and will feature characters both new and dearly missed — all crafted with maximum attention to detail and quality.
Hearts of Stone will premiere in October, while Blood and Wine is slated for release in the first quarter of 2016.” – Steam Description
So it seems as though the game was delayed until May so that they could make DLC. My personal feelings aside, I don’t have a problem with 30 hr Expansion packs, if the content is worth that extra time. We are already aware of the fact that the game is supposed to span up to 200hrs if you do everything within the world, so adding an extra 30 hrs on top may not be a lot, but could be worth it. Hopefully it isn’t just filler based campaign content like most DLC these days.
Only time shall reveal those details. At least I have plenty of time to play through the campaign without being worried that some DLC will come out halfway through my playthrough, only to steer my experience in a different direction.
