A new Fable game is reportedly in the works by developers Playground Games, the team most famously behind the wheel of the Forza Horizon games. While the reports are currently unconfirmed, Eurogamer has reported that the publisher has handed the reins to Playground, which, if true, comes less than two years after the closure of series masterminds Lionhead Studios.
Speaking to Eurogamer, series co-creator Dene Carter said that he was excited that the series wasn’t dead, but said that he had “mixed feelings” about the news. In his words:
“On the one hand it’s great for the UK games industry, and very pleasing that Fable isn’t dead. Indeed, it will be lovely to play one as a punter, without coming out in hives. On the other hand it is a little curious to get rid of the team that is uniquely expert in making Fable, and then try and make Fable. Fable is a weird game, and a tough one to deconstruct for a new team. That said, the team in question is very talented, and I’m sure they’ll do a fantastic job.”
Although still unconfirmed, this isn’t the first time that Playground Games has been linked to the Fable series. Late last year, Forbes reported on the fact that Playground may indeed be developing a new entry in the series. At the time, the developers had a job listing which may have pointed to the speculation being true. The most relevant part of the listing said:
“You’ll join the team and the project at an early stage, giving you the rare opportunity to shape the future of an exciting, large-scale open world action / RPG AAA title from the outset.”
As mentioned above, the reports are still unconfirmed, although we’ll keep you updated should either Microsoft or Playground Games confirm the reports.
