One of Microsoft’s most touted features on their Xbox One systems doesn’t have to do with its power, but with its ability to play older Xbox games. For now it’s only been Xbox 360 games that were backwards compatible; titles like Mass Effect or Red Dead Redemption. Now the Xbox One has been updated and has the ability to play original Xbox titles. All of the games have been enhanced with 1080p resolution, faster loading times as well as smoother frame rates.
Here is the list of games that you can play on the Xbox One if you still have the disc for it, or you can also purchase most of the titles on the Xbox store:
- Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
- Ninja Gaiden Black
- Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge
- Fuzion Frenzy
- Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time
- Dead to Rights
- Grabbed by the Ghoulies
- Sid Meier’s Pirates!
- Bloodrayne 2
- Red Faction II
- The King of Fighters Neowave
That is a pretty solid list of games that are available for players to be able to dive back into, especially Knights of the Old Republic, Ninja Gaiden Black and Prince of Persia. It will be interesting to see what other games that Microsoft adds to the list of backwards compatible titles on the Xbox One.
While Sony has continued to be content in making players pay to play old PlayStation 2 titles on their PS4s, and Nintendo continues to make buckets of money off of limited edition mini emulator consoles, it’s good to see Microsoft continue to support backwards compatibility. The fact that if you still have your disc, or owned an Xbox 360 game digitally, then you can play those games on your new console is definitely a solid feature for Microsoft’s Xbox One systems. It will be interesting to see how long they keep this trend of backwards compatibility and if gamers can expect to see it in the future from Microsoft.
