Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition Coming Winter 2018

Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition was announced earlier at Microsoft’s E3 press conference. Slated for a winter 2018 release, Bandai Namco later confirmed Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition will not be Xbox or Xbox timed-exclusive. The beloved JRPG launches on all platforms simultaneously. Check out the embedded trailer to see it in action. Amazon is currently accepting pre-orders at $49.99. Bandai Namco’s European Twitter also confirmed dual audio support.

Tales of Vesperia

Tales of Vesperia originally launched as an Xbox 360 on August 7, 2008. The North American release followed later that month with Europe waiting until June the following year. A PlayStation 3 port released exclusively in Japan in September 2009. More than a mere port to another platform, the PS3 version contained extra content which has been withheld from the west until now.

The PlayStation 3 version contained the following extra content:

  • Two new playable characters in the form of Patty and Flynn
  • Exclusive costumes
  • New bosses
  • Full voice acting
  • Additional scenes and skits
  • New end-game dungeon
  • Additional mystic artes
  • Overlimit increased to 8

At one point, Bandai Namco had no plans to release the PS3 port overseas. Eight years since that statement, the tables have turned, as the remaster will feature all of the PS3 version’s extra content.

Tales of Vesperia Plot Synopsis

The game’s story takes place in the world of Terca Lumireis. This world is largely sustained by “blastia”, a technology from an ancient civilization which can be used to perform a variety of tasks including powering the barriers which keep cities safe from monsters and helping knights in battle. After a war ten years ago, the world has settled into a more or less peaceful state consisting of the Empire which rules the land and various guilds which formed for those wishing to live outside the Empire’s rule.

The main character in the story is Yuri Lowell, a former Imperial Knight who now helps solve peoples problems in the lower quarter. After a blastia which regulates water flow in the lower quarter is stolen, Yuri attempts to catch the thief, however, ends up being thrown in jail instead. He then meets a mysterious girl named Estelle while escaping; she is coincidentally searching for Yuri’s childhood friend Flynn, and from here their adventure begins.
