Netflix recently announced a total of 16 anime titles coming to the streaming platform during the Netflix Anime Festival 2020 and touched on both already announced and newly announced upcoming titles seen below.

Godzilla: Singular Point

Netflix, in association with studio Bones and Orange, will create an all new Godzilla TV anime titled Godzilla SP (Singular Point) to be streamed sometime in 2021, and will air on TV in Japan in April 2021.

Atsushi Takahashi (who worked on Doraemon the Movie 2017: Great Adventure in the Antarctic Kachi Kochi) will be directing the anime alongside music composer Kan Sawada (who also worked on Doraemon) and Kazue Kato serving as the character designer, with famed fiction novelist Toh Enjoe making his TV debut as a writer for the series, and legendary animator Eiji Yamamori from Studio Ghibli serving as the designer for Godzilla.

Spriggan

Originally announced in March 2019, Netflix released new information on the anime adaptation of Ryouji Minagawa’s sci-fi action manga Spriggan, by way of a new key visual and staff listing.

  • Director: Hiroshi Kobayashi (Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan, Kiznaiver)
  • Writer: Hiroshi Seko (Attack on Titan The Final Season, Mob Psycho 100)
  • Character Designer: Shuhei Handa (Little Witch Academia)

Spriggan was originally serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1989 to 1996 and was compiled into 11 manga volumes. The manga follows Yu Ominae, a highly ranked agent or “Spriggan” at the ARCAM Private Army who’s tasked in sealing an ancient civilization’s artifact to prevent them from being used for human wars. The anime adaptation is set to premiere on Netflix globally sometime in 2021.

The Way of the House Husband

Netflix recently announced it would stream a new anime adaptation of The Way of the House Husband, based on the award-winning manga by Kousuke Oono. J.C.Staff will head the production and will be directed by Chiaki Kon, with Kenjiro Tsuda playing the main character Tatsu.

Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness

During the Tokyo Game Show event, Netflix announced Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which is the Resident Evil franchise’s first CG drama series coming to Netflix 2021. The series focuses on Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield, and “adds suspense into dynamic action scenes” to “reveal a Resident Evil world unlike anything seen before.” The series is being produced by Hiroyuki Kobayashi at TMS Entertainment, and animated in full 3D CG at studio Quebico, who also worked on the 2017 Resident Evil: Vendetta.

Netflix also announced that all four episodes of the OVA anime series for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Spin-off Thus Spoke Kishibe Rohan, will be coming to the streaming platform in 2021.

Vampire in the Garden

Netflix announced Vampire in the Garden, a new original anime series from WIT STUDIO. The anime is being directed by Ryotaro Makihara, with character designs and animation direction by Tetsuya Nishio and art direction from Shunichiro Yoshihara. The anime will be out on the platform in 2021.

Pacific Rim: The Black

First revealed in 2018, Netflix released the first visuals for Pacific Rim: The Black anime series, based on the film series from Legendary Pictures. The 2021 series will be produced by co-showrunners Craig Kyle and Greg Johnson.

Baki: Son of Ogre

It was announced that Baki: Son of Ogre, will be premiering on Netflix in 2021. To celebrate the announcement, manga creator Keisuke Itagaki drew a special illustration seen above.

B: The Beginning

Netflix also announced the second season of B the Beginning, titled B: The Beginning Succession, scheduled to air on the streaming service in 2021.

Eden

Netflix revealed a new trailer and visual for the upcoming four-episode original series, Eden. The anime will be directed by Yasuhiro Irie with animation production by Qubic Pictures, and is set to premiere May 2021.

High Rise Invasion

Netflix announced it will release a new anime adaptation of High Rise Invasion, based on the manga series by Takahiro Oba and Tsuina Miura. The anime is being Directed by Masahiro Takata, alongside character designer Yoichi Ueda, with series composition by Yoichi Ueda, music from tatsuo and Yoichi Sakai, and animation production by Zero-G. The anime is set to release in February 2021.

TRESE

Netflix announced a new anime series TRESE, based in Manila Philippines. The announcement stream stated that as the series is being created in the Philippines, the creators will have a different perspective of Manila than someone not from the city.

Netflix announced a new season of the critically acclaimed Thermae Romae series was announced during the presentation, titled Thermae Romae Novae. Netflix also released a new visual for the upcoming series. Mari Yamazaki will be drawing new episodes for the series, with series production by Studio NAZ.

Transformers: War For Cybertron

Netflix also announced that the second chapter of Rooster Teeth’s Transformers: War For Cybertron, will be coming soon to the platform. However, no specific date or interval was revealed.

Netflix revealed details on the upcoming anime Yasuke including the character information on the Black Samurai Yasuke and the legendary Oda Nounaga, featuring character designs by Takeshi Koike. The series is being produced at Studio MAPPA and is being directed by LeSean Thomas.

Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure

Netflix also announced the continuation of the Netflix exclusive anime series, Rilakkuma’s Theme Park Adventure, directed by Masahito Kobayashi with animation production by dwarf studios and San-X Co., Ltd.

Final Thoughts

There are a lot of anime to look forward to next year, a lot of which have potential to be amazing. I personally can’t wait to see Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, The Way of the House Husband, and Vampire in the Garden, so hopefully they meet our expectations.
